Account Information: When you register, we collect your name, email address, and password. For student profiles, we collect the student's name and grade level.

Writing Data: We collect writing submissions, AI-generated feedback, scores, and progress data to provide our service.

Usage Data: We automatically collect information about how you interact with our platform, including pages visited, features used, and session duration.

Device Information: We collect your IP address and basic device information for security purposes, including preventing unauthorized account sharing.

2. How We Use Your Information

We use your information to:

• Provide and improve our writing practice service
• Generate AI-powered writing prompts and feedback
• Track student progress and generate reports
• Send weekly progress reports and service notifications
• Process payments (when applicable)
• Prevent unauthorized access and ensure account security

3. AI Processing

Student writing submissions are sent to Anthropic's Claude API for grading and feedback. We send only the writing text and grade level — no personally identifiable information such as student names is sent to the AI. Anthropic does not use this data to train their models.

4. Data Storage and Security

Your data is stored securely on Supabase servers. We use industry-standard security measures including encrypted connections (HTTPS), secure authentication, and row-level security policies to protect your data.

5. Children's Privacy

WriteSmart is designed for use by children under parental supervision. We do not knowingly collect personal information directly from children without parental consent. Parents create and manage all student accounts.

We comply with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) and similar regulations. Parents can review, modify, or delete their children's data at any time through the Settings page.

6. Data Sharing

We do not sell your personal information. We share data only with:

• Anthropic (Claude API) — for AI writing feedback, anonymized as described above
• Resend — for sending email notifications
• Stripe — for payment processing (when applicable)

These service providers process data only as necessary to provide their services to us.

7. Data Retention

We retain your data for as long as your account is active. When you delete your account, all data including student profiles, writing submissions, scores, and progress reports are permanently deleted.

8. Your Rights

You have the right to:

• Access your data through the platform
• Export your writing submissions as PDF
• Modify your account information
• Delete your account and all associated data
• Opt out of weekly email reports

9. Cookies

We use essential cookies only for authentication and session management. We do not use advertising or tracking cookies.

10. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of significant changes by email or through the platform.
